Fried & Confused at Taco Co.

Taco Love

If I had to pick three types of foods to eat for the rest of my life, tacos would be on the shortlist. Where there’s a new taco spot, you’ll find me there too.

Upon entering the Taco Co entrance, the decor is on point with just enough bright colors and airiness to be inviting, but didn’t feel like they were trying too hard to impress. We were seated inside, but after a few minutes we learned about the margarita garden on their outdoor patio.

Let’s Taco Bout it

I ordered a queso to share and a beef and carnitas taco. First the queso dip had a great flavor profile. It had a rich depth of just the right amount of spices with a hint of heat. The tortilla chips were tasty and fried just right, but were a bit thick. I prefer really thin and crispy tortilla chips.

The taco shells were a bit thick and doughy for my tastebuds. Each taco came with shredded romaine lettuce and diced tomatoes. No salsa. No cheese. That’s it. I asked for a side of onions, cilantro, lime, and jalapeños, which I added to my tacos. The beef was browned ground beef with minimal seasoning. In fact, it tasted like only salt was used. The carnitas had more flavor, but it left me wanting more spices since the tacos were served pretty plain Jane. To give you a comparison, I prefer the carnitas at Chipotle.

Final Verdict

I’d go back to try the margarita garden and nosh on some nachos at Taco Co, but find my love of spices fulfilled in South Omaha. Different tacos for different folks. The staff was super nice and friendly!
